Trendy New Spot for New Year Countdown

PARTYGOERS will be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing a venue for the 2010 countdown with an additional new spot to hang out at Gurney Plaza in Penang.

State Tourism Development and Culture Committee chairman Danny Law said the event at the alfresco area between G Hotel and Gurney Plaza would be held from 7.30pm on Dec 31 to midnight.

He said the New Year Eve Countdown 2010 is organised by the Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce (PCCC) with the support of the state government.

“The event, which will be attended by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, will also coincide with the launch of the Visit Penang Year 2010-2012.

“A string of shows will be held throughout the night,” Law said.

Event organising chairman Oon Weng Boon, who is also PCCC Young Entrepreneur section chairman, said there would be an eight-minute fireworks display when the crowd welcomed the New Year.

“A platform will be set up for local artistes to showcase their talents and entertain the crowd.

“Three local bands will also perform at the event,” he said.

Oon said there would be more than 1,000 attractive prizes offered in a special draw contest that night.

“There are RM20,000 worth of prizes inclu-ding hotel stays, shopping cash vouchers and electrical appliances up for grabs,” he added.

Entrance is free.
