The Star Property & Lifestyle Fair 2009

GEORGE TOWN: The Star Property Fair returns to Penang with the crème de la crème of properties up for grabs but this time, at a new location.

Organised by The Star in collaboration with Henry Butcher Malaysia and supported by The Expat Group, the three-day fair from Sept 11 to 13 will take place at the G Hotel instead of the Penang International Sports Arena (Pisa).

The Star marketing services general manager Iris Tan said that a “lifestyle” section would also be introduced as an extension of the fair at the Gurney Plaza where visitors would find a varied selection of home improvement products and offerings with the aim of converting a property into a dream home.

“Visitors to the fair can expect a varied mix of high-end condominiums, luxury bungalows and other residential properties for sale.

“The Star has always considered the property sector and industry a vital component in the country’s growth and as such, we will continue to provide opportunities for our readers, Malaysians and expatriates to buy their dream home,” she said.

Tan said The Star would also be bringing the fair to Kuala Lumpur for the first time in November this year.

Asked if the number of visitors may be affected by the economic slowdown, she said they were confident of attracting more visitors this year as people were now leading a more affluent lifestyle and wanted something more than just a house.

Henry Butcher Malaysia director Dr Jason Teoh said the fair was most timely in offering real value for money property to the visitors under one roof.

“It will be the first of its kind in Penang, emphasising on lifestyles and real estate for a more affluent market, including the expatriate community.

“We are also collaborating with Malaysia Airlines to promote the country as a destination of choice for holiday-makers and homebuyers under a programme called Property Investment Second Home (PI2H), which will be used to draw visitors to Penang during the fair.

“Property developers, bankers and lifestyle promoters should take advantage of this opportunity to participate in the fair and to showcase their latest offerings,” he said, adding that real estate experts were also being invited to present their views on the property market.

Dr Teoh said lifestyle companies would be invited to give their views on related matters such as wine, health, jewellery, holidays, motoring, fashion and feng shui.

The Expat Group marketing director R. Linga said the group, which has an intimate understanding of the expat community, would help in creating the lifestyle element.

Star Publications operations regional manager (north) Chung Chok Yin said they were targeting 68 booths in G Hotel and 90 booths in Gurney Plaza.

The fair will be open to the public from 11am to 7pm on Friday and Saturday, and from 11am to 5pm on Sunday. Admission is free.
