ART FOR LIFE - Henry Butcher Charity Art Auction 2009
Life is precious. With this in mind, Henry Butcher Art Auctioneers embarks on a mission to initiate the first step towards making a difference in other people’s lives. Not just any lives but a community that is surviving cancer - a disease that knows no boundaries. Together with over fifty talented Malaysian artists contributing their artworks, Henry Butcher Art Auctioneers (a venture for the promotion of local arts) is organizing its inaugural “Art For Life” — The Henry Butcher Art Auction cum Charity Gala Dinner on Saturday, 28th February 2009 at Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC) in Kuala Lumpur. This event opens the opportunity for guests by donations to join the excitement of bidding for a painting, starting from very attractive prices. The likes of Cheah Yew Saik, Jansen Chow, Keng Seng Choo, Abdul Rasid Yusoff, Wong Kean Choon and Tew Nai Tong have gladly joined the “Art For Life” bandwagon. The list also includes many of our homegrown art pioneers and national as well as international art award winners. Read more... The beneficiaries of “Art For Life” namely the National Cancer Society of Malaysia and the Lions Lyfe-Line Leukaemia Fund will both share the proceeds after the event. Founded in 1966, the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) is dedicated to preventing cancer, saving lives from cancer and improving the quality of life of those living with cancer through patient care and education. One of the integral services provided by NCSM is the Cancer Treatment Centre (CTC) in Tung Shin hospital, in which they provide radiotherapy treatment at highly subsidized rates. By March 2009, NCSM hopes to raise RM8million for the upgrading of its facilities in CTC. Read more... On the same note, the Lions Lyfe-Line Leukaemia Fund, established since 1983 under the auspices of the Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur (West) hopes to improve its financial standing amidst increased cost of medications and potentially life-saving drugs. This will ensure the fund continues to help needy patients pay for the very expensive treatment of leaukaemia and allied illnesses. Read more...A special highlight is the auction of “fresh” paintings completed by Tan Seng Kit and Nurulakhmal, two young artists from the HeArt group, an initiative set up by Puan Wairah Marzuki — formerly of the National Art Gallery — to feature art by children with "special" needs. Notwithstanding their difficulty in handling a possible crowd, Seng Kit and Nurulakhmal will share a glimpse of their artistic talent in a live demonstration prior to dinner. Right next door, Tan Sik Yaw, a professional water colour artist from the Singapore’s Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (1967) will entertain the guests by completing a painting within an hour. Read more... Students from the Garden International School have also donated two lovely paintings that will be auctioned off to the highest bidder with 100% of the proceeds going to charity. Read more... The VIP guests list includes members of the royalty and senior government officials. A total of 250 guests are anticipated to attend the charity dinner. Philanthropists to art enthusiasts alike are encouraged to participate in “Art For Life” by sponsoring the event or purchasing dinner tickets, priced at RM250 per person .
