A Perak executive councillor is upset over the delay in investigations concerning the 2009 collapse of the row of pre-war shophouses at the Fair Park that killed two people.
Datuk Hamidah Osman urged the Ipoh City Council (MBI) and police to speed up their investigations to ensure that action is taken against the responsible parties.
“I am upset with the delay as it has been nearly two years since the incident occurred on Oct 2 but we have yet to see any action being taken,” she said.
Zairi Mohd Sabri, 25, and Firdaus Mohd Norzila, 23, who were in a Perodua Viva, were killed and Abdil Kudus Ismail, 21, seriously injured when the building collapsed on the vehicle.
Hamidah said she was told that the council had completed their investigations, adding that under the law, the building owner and the contractor could be charged under Section 71 of the MBI Drainage, Road and Building Act for conducting work without informing the council.
Mohd Zairi’s mother Zaiton Ahmad, 47, said it has been too long a wait.
“I am unhappy with the attitude of the concerned parties and that the culprits are still free,” she said.
Firdaus’s father Mohd Norzila said his family was not at peace as they wanted justice so that they would be able to get on with life.
